Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance in Fort Myers & Southwest Florida

Guaranteed issue life insurance is a small whole life policy you can’t be turned down for because of your health: no medical exam and no health questions. It’s built for people who have been declined elsewhere or live with serious health conditions. In exchange, the full death benefit usually phases in over the first two years.

For most people, the simplest way to make sure funeral costs and final bills don’t fall on their family is a small whole life policy. But if you’ve been turned down for coverage, or you’re living with a serious health condition, the health questions on most applications can stand in the way. Guaranteed issue life insurance removes them entirely.

How Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance Works

A guaranteed issue policy is a small permanent (whole life) policy that you can’t be turned down for because of your health. There’s no medical exam and no health questions; if you’re within the company’s eligible ages, you’re accepted.

  • Level premiums. Your premium is set when you buy the policy and doesn’t go up as you age.
  • Coverage that doesn’t shrink. The death benefit stays the same for life once the waiting period ends.
  • Can’t be canceled for your health. As long as premiums are paid, the policy stays in force.
  • Small cash value. Like other whole life policies, it builds a modest cash value over time.
  • Paid to your beneficiary. Your family can use the money for a funeral or cremation, medical bills or any other expense.

The Two-Year Waiting Period

Because the company accepts everyone, most guaranteed issue policies use a graded death benefit for the first two years. If you pass away from natural causes during that time, the policy typically refunds the premiums you’ve paid, often plus interest, instead of paying the full benefit. Accidental death is usually covered in full from the first day. After the waiting period, the full death benefit is paid for any cause.

The exact terms vary by company and policy, so I’ll walk you through the waiting period and the refund on the specific policy before you apply.

Guaranteed Issue vs. Simplified Issue

Simplified issue final expense policies ask a short list of health questions but still require no exam. If you can answer those questions, a simplified issue policy usually costs less for the same coverage and often pays the full benefit from day one. Guaranteed issue costs more per dollar of coverage because the company takes on more risk.

That’s why I always check whether you qualify for simplified issue final expense coverage first. Guaranteed issue is the right choice when the health questions would rule you out. For a deeper comparison, read Guaranteed-Issue vs. Simplified-Issue Final Expense Insurance.

Who Guaranteed Issue Is For

  • People who have been declined for other life insurance.
  • People with serious health conditions that simplified issue applications commonly ask about, such as recent cancer treatment, kidney dialysis or needing oxygen.
  • People who would rather not answer health questions at all and are comfortable with the waiting period.

Common Mistakes People Make

  • Buying guaranteed issue when they could have qualified for a less expensive simplified issue policy.
  • Not understanding the two-year waiting period, and what the policy pays during it.
  • Waiting too long to apply. Premiums are based on your age when you buy, and every company has a maximum issue age.
  • Choosing a coverage amount without a plan. Start from the kind of service you want and any bills you’d want paid.
  • Letting the policy lapse. If premiums stop, coverage can end, and starting over means a new waiting period.

How We Help You Choose a Policy

  1. We check simplified issue first. If you qualify, you’ll likely pay less and skip the waiting period.
  2. We size the coverage. Based on the funeral or cremation you want and any bills you want covered.
  3. We explain the waiting period. In plain language, on the exact policy you’re considering.
  4. We help with your beneficiary and paperwork, so your family knows what to expect when the time comes.

I offer guaranteed issue life insurance from Foresters, and final expense coverage from Gerber Life, United American and United of Omaha, so we can compare both paths in one conversation.

Common questions

Not because of your health. There are no health questions or exams. As long as you’re within the company’s eligible ages and complete the application, you’re accepted.

Most guaranteed issue policies have a graded death benefit. If death is from natural causes during the waiting period, the policy typically refunds the premiums paid, often plus interest. Accidental death is usually covered in full from day one, and after two years the full benefit is paid for any cause. Terms vary by policy.

Guaranteed issue policies are designed for final expenses, so coverage amounts are small, generally a few thousand dollars up to a limit set by the company. We’ll help you choose an amount based on the funeral or cremation you want and any bills you’d want paid.

Yes. Because the company accepts everyone, premiums are higher than simplified issue policies for the same coverage. If you can answer a simplified issue application’s health questions, that’s usually the better value.

No. Premiums are level for the life of the policy, and the coverage amount doesn’t decrease. The policy can’t be canceled because of your health as long as premiums are paid.
