Medicare prescription drug coverage helps cover your prescription drug costs. You must choose a plan to get this coverage. You pay a monthly premium. If you have limited income and resources, you may get this coverage for little or no cost. You can choose to take advantage of this coverage by joining a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that covers prescription drugs only, and keep the rest of your Medicare coverage just the way it is. Or, you can join a Medicare Advantage or other Medicare Health Plan that covers your doctor and hospital care as well as prescriptions.

(Note: You may already belong to one of these plans.)

How much will my drug insurance cost?

Your costs will vary depending on your financial situation and which drug plan you choose. Check with the drug plans in your area to compare their costs and what they cover.

All drug plans will offer coverage at least as good as the Medicare minimum standard coverage. Plans may offer more coverage and have different premiums and cost sharing.
